Mammoth Ivory Spotted Deer, Rusty Brown Rutilated Quartz Necklace

Approx 24" around, pendant 1 3/4" drop x 1 1/8"

$780

This necklace is composed of a beautifully carved mammoth ivory spotted deer showing his spot, antlers and doe like eyes.  I have combined it with various shades of rust and brown rutilated quartz which show off the deer and make this a necklace you can wear with everything.  The rutilated quartz is various transparencies, with some being very dense in color and other beads showing the needle-like crystal inclusions inside quartz.  In between are small mammoth ivory beads and some interesting bone disk beads.

The necklace is 24” around and the deer drops 1 3/4” and is 1 1/8” wide.  The necklace is finished with an 18k gold vermeil hook clasp.

It is believed that only the deer could find the magic fungus of immortality.  They are symbolic of longevity, honor and good luck. 5,000 years ago, ancient Chinese regarded the spotted deer as the symbol of power, wealth and dignity.

Rutilated quartz is a   macrocrystalline variety of the mineral quartz, with rust golden, green or black colored inclusions and of various transparency.  It is often referred to as cupid’s darts.

Mammoth Ivory comes from the extinct mammoth elephant that roamed the Earth during the Pliocene era from around 4.8 million to 4,500 years ago. Because they are extinct they are not endangered and therefore, are legal and save the African elephant.  The artisans that carved elephant ivory are now carving mammoth ivory that is recovered in Siberia.
